Effective advocacy is rooted in individual leadership. Individuals, their families, and their networks are at the core of our work to build a fair, safe, and inclusive society where LGBTQ people can lead healthy, fulfilling lives. Learn how your leadership and your connections to others can advance equality in your local community. Learn how to lobby your legislator, organize your community, and more.
Public policy impacts us on a daily basis, whether we know it or not. Workshops designated with a Policy theme are intended to give participants a broad base of knowledge about the state of LGBTQ policy, which laws have passed, and what work remains to transform legal equality into a lived reality for LGBTQ Wisconsinites.
Gender Identity Expression (GIE)
Gender identity and expression are at the core of our organizations’ work to end discrimination against the LGBTQ community. Learn about current issues facing the trans community and how to build a more trans-inclusive movement for equality by joining leaders, activists, friends, families, and allies together from around the state to work on creating policy, legislation, and environments that are inclusive of transgender and gender-nonconforming people.
Health & Wellness (H&W)
LGBTQ people living healthy and fulfilling lives is the ultimate vision of Diverse & Resilient and Fair Wisconsin. Participants in H&W-themed workshops will learn about the impact of discrimination, homophobia, and public policy on the health and well-being of our community.
Religion is often at the core of our opposition’s efforts to discriminate against LGBTQ people. Today, however, many faith leaders and congregations are actively working to end anti-LGBTQ discrimination and build inclusive communities. These sessions will explore the role of faith in advancing equality and will share best practices for faith leaders and congregants in building welcoming congregations.
Achieving legal equality and making those gains a lived reality requires deep work at the intersections of identities, forms of oppression, and movements. From dismantling multiple systems of oppression to building increased understanding and acceptance across different communities, these sessions will challenge and inspire you to think differently about the equality movement and how we approach our work. This theme includes specific focuses on gender identity & expression, racial justice, and education & youth.
